Trust?

I’ve been perplexed lately, trying to figure out why so many companies have pushed for the premature return to office over the last year, especially for those who have been as/more productive while working remote. This has caused so much stress for their employees, resulting in many resigning and others losing trust in their management. I once worked for an amazing individual who was a VP of R&D and he gave me a book, The Speed Of Trust by Stephen Covey. I recently found it and started to read it. In the forward Stephen’s father says, “Financial success comes from success in the marketplace, and success in the marketplace comes from success in the workplace. The heart and soul of all of this is trust.”. Management might learn a lot, if they first learned to trust their employees. Employees want to do good in their jobs and they want to find purpose and usefulness. If you work in an office onsite or remotely, I don’t see this core desire changing. However, if management does not support their employees and does not trust them, well then, now that is a guaranteed setup for a toxic work environment.
